US AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION

Agriculture is a major industry in the United States. The United States has more than 2.2 million farms, however, the largest 1.5% of farms in the United States account for half of the production. In 2011, net farm income is forecast to be around $95 billion.

The United States one of the world’s largest food exporters. About one-fourth of U.S. farm output is exported. The USDA forecasts the U.S. agricultural exports in 2011 will be the second highest level ever at $113 billion. Much of the increase is due to increased grain and feed shipments to Asia, and reduced competition from Russia, and the Ukraine.
